Escape to the West Coast

The PCs arrive at the Funiculars hideout. Chrys, one of the Funicular operatives, describes the predicament that the PCs are in. They are inexplicably in Nashville avoiding the racist authority figures and trying to make a name for themselves. Chrys informs them that their arrival in Nashville was part of a scheme created by Neonet. The corps is kidnapping shadowrunners from across the country and planting them in the south. After the shadowrunners establish themselves, the corps plans to finagle the shadowrunners into helping the corps gain a cyberware market in the Confederate American States. Chrys tells the PCs that she can offer them a place to rest for the night, some food, and a couple of options for their future. The PCs agree to take rest and respite and hear Chrys’ offer in the morning. Arturo gets the hot for Chrys, but his rude manners are rewarded by her disappearing right in front of his eyes.

The PCs take their rest but agree to take turns sitting up. They do not trust the Funiculars yet.

In the morning the PCs gather with Chrys. She informs them that the Funiculars can provide them with help in two ways.

  1. If the PCs choose to stay in Nashville, the Funiculars could use their talents as part of their anti-racist activist movement. The Funiculars will reward the PCs with basic supplies and occasional compensation. Chrys emphasizes that any compensation would be minimal because the Funiculars funnel as many resources as possible to their cause.
  2. If the PCs want to leave the city, the Funiculars can hide them in an black market arms shipment. They would arrive somewhere on the west coast in the California Free State.
    The PCs have one hour to decide before the shipment gets prepared.

The four decide to take on an unknown future in in the California Free State and trust that Chrys is not lying to them about this opportunity. Chrys explains the details of the plan while Arturo is trying to remind the other three of how similar this is to a plan they all shot down in the past. The Funiculars are scheduled to sale off some excess arms on the black market. A few of those crates will be occupied by the PCs. Diantha wonders, of course, if they will be found. Chrys explains that after approximately 8hrs. they should arrive on the coast in the hands of pirates. They are to wait until they believe they are on land and break out of their boxes. Once free of captivity. Chrys explains that they are likely to land at one of Horizon’s small ports where they will be able to find a recruiting office for the corps, a possibility for small-time work. The PCs dose up with a depressant to calm their nerves and prepare for the 10 hour journey. While getting in his box Samuel says, “Let’s get out of the Confederate States of These Nuts.”

The PCs awake and upon peeking out of their box find themselves still on board a ship and with daylight falling through the port holes. They decide to get back in their boxes and wait until they feel like they have been moved portside.

Arturo steps out of his box with confidence. Vo peeks out of hers and gets out blending in to the shadows. Samuel turns invisible and then steps out. But Diantha stays, waiting. Just before Arturo starts railing on her crate, Diantha sneaks out. They are all casting furtive glances and peering in to the shadows looking for any signs of threat. Two well-armed, well-scared orks walk up and with heavy grunts inquire why the groups is standing there. Diantha quickly uses her charm to talk them away.

Their comm units pull up a layout of the town called Alchatorous. Its built on a stairstepped hillside right down to the water front. A large pier runs between the water and the town. And warehouses populate most of the portside. Looking around, the group notices a lively seaside bar. A crowd stands out front milling, drinking, smoking highlighted by a flashing neon sign that reads “Ar u A irate!” Thinking to gather some local information and work the four head to the bar. Vo sneaks out of the shadows and Samuel inconspicuously reappears. Inside the bar as they are ordering drinks, an ork by the name of Captain Carlos introduces himself and buys their drinks. Next, he has a proposal. He is looking for a few extra crew members to help him settle a turf war on the following day. After discussing the details and bartering with Diantha, the group agrees to help for 200 nuyen each, share in the spoils, and future work.

Arturo wanders off to hit on the hot ladies in the bar. Diantha says, “Whatever, you go and get laid,” while her and Vo decide on sleeping accommodations. Samuel decides to join Diantha and Vo.

Next Time
Will they pirate job be everything they hoped? Will they survive it? Are there other opportunities for them in Alchatorus? Is this a better situation than Nashville?

Diantha and Vo stay the night in Horizon’s Extended Stay high rise. Back at the crates, Arturo gets it on with an ork he met in the bar. Samuel is nowhere to be found.

As the ork is getting ready to leave Arturo, he quickly convinces her to invite him to her place for the night. Arturo thinks: “I earned my way into that bed.”

Diantha and Vo wake up and walk down to the docks under a bright sunny sky. The ocean breeze is both warm and salty. They are to the docks by 7:30 looking for Arturo, Samuel, and eventually Carlos. Eventually, Diantha just comm links Arturo. She gets the first of many annoying voice messages from Arturo. Diantha and Vo find Carlos who inquires where the rest of their team is. Arturo shows up just in time to meet Carlos, but Samuel is nowhere to be seen.

As Carlos gets insistent about the missing mage, Arturo holds a gun to his head while Diantha says, “Why don’t you just calm down there ‘Peg Leg Pete’.” He isn’t sure if he should be offended. Diantha quickly catches herself and says, “Personally, I find peg legs really sexy.” Carlos laughs and shakes his leg (which is quite normal). Carlos invites them up on the Baja Brawler a Joergensen frieghter and introduces them to his crew that call themselves the Boo Radleys.

As the Baja Brawler makes way, a pirate catches the attention of Diantha and she introduces herself to him. She quickly learns this pirates name is Juan and that he is leading a mutiny. He tries to convert her to his cause.

10:00
The PCs discuss the their situation. Do they side with Juan’s mutiny? Do they stay loyal to their commitment with Carlos? Do they rat out the mutiny to Carlos or just let events play out? Ultimately, the group does not come to a cohesive decision. Diantha talks to Carlos about the possible mutiny. Vo investigates on her own. And Arturo finds himself a compatriot in one of the female pirates.

The group has a meeting to determine their final action. At this point Samuel shows up out of nowhere announcing that “Invisibility makes me really sleepy”. Even after further discussion, the group decides to stay the course and perform their roles as part of Carlos’ crew.

11:00
When the ship beaches, the pirates begin setting up for their assault. Vo takes off with a few other pirates to invade the fortress secretly from the backside. Diantha joins Carlos as a spokesperson hoping that they can settle this matter of territory without bloodshed. Samuel follows along invisibly. Arturo stays on the boat against orders and just sits around. Vo and the other infiltrators are able to successfully infiltrate up the cliff side and into the back door of the hideout. Although there is a question of strategy, Vo takes off by herself. Diantha and Carlos are invited inside to meet Captain Lewis. Once inside, they are prepared to parley with the Captain, but she throws them off guard by offering the a seat in a birthday feast to her ancient ancestor Sarah Lewis. Carlos quickly returns to the matter at hand. Unfortunately, this leads to quick tempers. All the pirates jump up from their seats and storm outside to fight the Boo Radleys. Meanwhile, Diantha and Samuel have disappeared under Samuel’s invisibility spell and cower in a corner; and Vo has a surprise run in with Captain Lewis and her bodyguards. Arturo has decided just stealing the Boo Radleys ship is the best thing for him to do.

Vo Meets Nikon

Vorina narrowly her escapes her encounter with Captain Lewis and slips out of the pirate stronghold. Looking around for her friends and not finding them, Vo does notice a mass slaughter of pirates, bodies laying everywhere. She decides to escape back out the way they broke in initially. She grabs the raft with the outboard motor. I has enough gasoline to get her to the peninsula just outside of Alchatorus. After getting to Alchatorus, she begins looking and listening for signs of her friends.

At RRRRRR U A PIRATE, most of the pirates are discussing the pirate slaughter on Monday’s Island. Vo joins a holodeck game of Creature Crush and outplays both opponents to the extent that they storm away from the game. Around the bar, there are rumors of Carlos’ death, of his missing ship, and of the pirate vacuum that was Carlos’ territory.

As Vo explores Alchatorus searching for any sign of her friends, she gets a call from a Mr. Johnson offering her a quick security job. With nothing better to do, she agrees to meet him at a local bar and get the details.

Once at the bar Vo grabs a drink and purposely sits a few tables over from Mr. Johnson. Mr. Johnson, wearing a conspicuously white suit and raised sunglasses gets up and goes to the long bar where he speaks with an orc. The two come to Vo’s table and take a seat uninvited. Mr. Johnson makes the introductions. Then he outlines the security job: “Help see a shipment safe from the docks to the warehouse. It is only a couple of blocks, but the shipment is valuable and our intel tells us that the likelihood of an ambush or heist is very high. Since Horizon is backing this, you will want to speak with ”/characters/captain-stratton" class=“wiki-content-link”>Captain Stratton at HQ. You will receive an upgraded commlink or program & 2,000 nuyen for your efforts." Mr. Johnson proceed to give the details of the where and when, and then he left.

Vo and her new acquaintance Nikon move to the bar for more drinks, get to understand each other, and develop a plan. Although they do not trust Mr. Johnson and Nikon’s hatred of the corps leads him away from trusting Captain Stratton, they decide that they should go scout out the docks and look for any suspicious activity. At which point the lumbering bar tender leans across the counter and says, “I couldn’t help but overhearing your conversation there with the suit. That sounds like messy business. My friend Lixin said that if I came across rumors of this to send any interested parties his way for more intel.”

The bartender is one more person not to trust. Nikon hacks his way through any information he can find on the bartender and comes up with nothing unusual. Vo and Nikon change plans and head to Lixin’s house first. Nikon does a quick cyber sweep of the living complex. Using the security cameras installed in every room, he checks out Lixin’s apartment to find him in the middle of an intense push-up routine. Nikon’s search on the trid finds the Lixin is connected to the Triads, but his presence in Alchatorus is tolerated. He is directly connected to higher-ups of the Triads in San Francisco. He is most likely the pointman for maintaining a Triad presence in Alchatorus.

Nikon has a chat with Lixin, while Vo, on the premise of using the toilet, has a quick look around the apartment. Neither find any reason to distrust Lixin. He warns the two that there is possibly an organized heist of the Horizon goods and offers his advice on where and how to guard against the threat. He even offers the service of a couple of his men if the two decide they need help.

A visit with Captain Stratton is under high security and reveals very little information.

The two finally make it to the docks. It is noon. They have six hours left to figure out a plan. Vo continues to scout out the dock for conspicuous places and people. Nikon heads over to the high-security warehouse that is the destination of the shipment they will be guarding. He wants to see what’s inside.

He starts trying to convince the guards that he has clearance to enter the warehouse. The guards ask for his ID. He says that he was sent by Captain Stratton and that they should be expecting him. The guards demand his ID and tell Nikon that he is not authorized to enter the building. Meanwhile, Vo walks up. She is able to left a security token off one of the guards. Nikon quickly hacks the Horizon system and creates some fake Horizon ID’s for him and Vo. They weren’t thorough but passable. At that point, Nikon asks them to check his authorization again. And the guards realized he was on their list. Nikon laughs and says, “Ha, I was just testing you guys.” The guard unlocks the door and says, “That’s a dick move, man!”

Next Time: What are Arturo and Samuel up to? Did they survive the pirate battle? What will Nikon & Vo find inside the warehouse? Will they stop the probable heist of Horizon goods?

Dockside Hijinks

Nikon & Vo recruit the help of Arturo and his flloozies as well as a Triad member. A battle on the docks entails as the gang tries to subdue a rogue mage who causes the Horizons troops to go nuts and starts calling forth water spirits. Although they are able to kill the mage before anything terrible happens, Arturuo manages to run his boat into the docks and detonating it. Mission complete, but at what price?

Desert Duties

Nikon & Vo take another job from Captain Stratton as a follow up to the rogue mage who sabotaged the Horizon shipment on the docks. Capt. Stratton wants reconnaissance on the Anasazi who suspects to be behind the attack. He sends Nikon & Vo out to the desert cult with a Horizon specialist named Steve.

Nikon & Vo run into Barghest, mysterious men in the rocks, and earth sentinels, but ultimately find the leader of the Anasazi cult.

With Nothing Better To Do...

Nikon runs into Samuel and Arturo who are playing dice with the Anasazi. Before long, they are roped into an overnight interception of an arms shipment. The next day a enforcer from the Shiawese pays the encampment a visit. Steve causes some unnecessary commotion.

The PCs are still trying to decide how to play out their infiltration/reconnaissance.
